Iron & Aclasta Infusions in Cheltenham
At BAYMED, we provide medically supervised infusion care for iron deficiency, osteoporosis and pregnancy-related dehydration. Our team of registered nurses and general practitioners offers individual assessment, treatment and follow-up tailored to your clinical needs.
Infusion Services
Iron deficiency
Assessment and management of confirmed iron deficiency. An infusion may be considered when iron tablets are not tolerated or effective, iron is poorly absorbed, or faster replacement is clinically needed. Your doctor will assess whether an infusion is appropriate for you.
Osteoporosis
Treatment coordinated with your referring doctor or specialist, with review of your medical history, relevant blood tests and suitability before proceeding.
Before your appointment
Your pre-infusion assessment can be face to face or by telehealth. Further examination or blood tests may be required.
- Drink water beforehand, unless you have a fluid restriction.
- No fasting is usually required—eat normally as tolerated.
- Complete requested blood tests and follow your medicine instructions.
- Consider bringing someone to accompany you and help you get home.
- Tell us about allergies, previous infusion reactions, recent illness or changes to your medicines. For osteoporosis treatment, also mention recent or planned dental work.
During your infusion
You will be looked after by our registered nurses and general practitioners. A small cannula is placed into a vein in your arm or hand, and treatment is given through a drip while you rest comfortably.
Appointments generally take 20–60 minutes, depending on your treatment, although additional observation may be needed. We will monitor you during and after the infusion. Please tell the team immediately if you feel unwell or notice discomfort around the drip.
After your infusion
You will receive individual aftercare and follow-up advice. Stay hydrated within any fluid restrictions, rest if needed, and do not drive if you feel dizzy or unwell.
After osteoporosis treatment, flu-like symptoms can occur for 1–3 days. Continue prescribed calcium and vitamin D, and use paracetamol if advised by your doctor. Contact us if symptoms worsen or do not settle.
Call 000 for breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, or collapse. Seek urgent medical advice for persistent vomiting, inability to keep fluids down, markedly reduced urine or other severe symptoms.
